5 Fandom Friday - Characters With My Favorite Fictional Fashion

Favorite fictional fashion! I love the ones I chose this week, so let's just get on with it:

1: Effie Trinket
    (The Hunger Games)

I think this is an obvious choice. I loooove Effie's outfits in the Hunger Games series. They're all so perfect! Well... I love almost all of them - the butterfly one she wears is utterly terrifying. (to someone terrified of almost all insects, butterflies included)  Otherwise, her outfits are fabulous! ♥

2: Daenerys Targaryan
    (Game of Thrones)

One of my favorite things about Dani is her wardrobe. It's all just so fantastic, it makes me wonder where she acquired all of it - does she have her own personal seamstress that's followed her from Illyrio's house to Meereen? Because I love it all. ♥

3: Luna Lovegood
    (Harry Potter)

I love love LOVE Luna. I love her attitude and I love her "loony"ness. I also love her outfits! She very obviously dresses in whatever fits her fancy at the time and I cherish that about her. ♥

4: Penelope Wilhelm
    (Penelope)

I feel like this movie gets so little love, and yet I absolutely adore it. It's an adorable fairy tale, and it firmly established my crush on James McAvoy. (although I first noticed his cuteness in Narnia) It's also the moment I fell in love with Peter Dinklage. And I've been a long time fan of Christina Ricci. She plays the title character and her outfits are soooo cute!! I love it! ♥

5: Willow Rosenberg
    (Buffy: the Vampire Slayer)

This was the first fictional character I thought of when I thought of favorite fashion, because she's one of the first fictional characters that I actually made a note of when I was little. I remember adoring her clothes, beginning with the quirky high school outfits and how they evolved through the years. I wanted to have Willow's wardrobe when I was little. I still wouldn't mind it today. ♥

A shirt I finally got!

Here's a nice, quick story! So, back in December of 2013, I entered to win a shirt from a blog I frequent. I won! I gave the blogger my address to get forwarded to wocomo, and was also contacted by the owner of wocomo, (the name of the etsy shop... it has since changed) to let me know he'd be a little late sending the shirt, but it was coming.

I had to choose: Marvel or DC?? (I chose Batman)
It never came.

In March of 2014, I decided to contact wocomo to ask about it. He said he has sent me a shirt, but obviously I didn't get it, so he was sending another one.

It never came.

I hate bugging people for things I've won. I'll usually only ask once, and then it's up to them. Thinking about it, three things I've won in the past come to mind - things I never received, but won't pester them again about it. (One of them was just earlier this year, a necklace I was supposed to win, but never even heard from the lady who was supposed to give the prize. One was from last year's IGGPPCamp. The third is from a couple years ago, nail polish that she said she sent but I never got.)

If you read the parentheses, you'll see what's not listed on there. This shirt.

In March of this year, I was contacted by wocomo - now Liva Design - once more. He was checking up on me because I never let him know if I got the shirt. He assumed (correctly) that it was because I never got it, and wanted to send another one to me, but his Batman shirt had changed since then, so he asked if I'd be okay with getting the new design.

I was floored. I had not expected to hear from him ever again!

He got my info again, and this time, the shirt had a tracking number. So I was able to watch it get here - and two and a half weeks later - it made it to me!

Here's a couple pics:

My new shirt!

I had planned on writing this post back in April when I got the shirt, but I didn't have time, and then I took that blog break. When I came back to my blog, I noticed an empty draft in my posts that was titled "A shirt I finally got!" so I figured it was about time to write about it!  :)

5 Fandom Friday - Favorite Fictional Dads

There are a LOT of fantabulous fictional dads out there. I tried going with the first dads I could think of, and they all ended up being from TV. So here's a list of just a few of my favorite TV dads:

1: Phil Dunphy
    (Modern Family)

Last week I had Claire on my list for being able to reel in her crazy enthusiastic husband. Of course I have her husband on the list. He's one cool dad. He may be out there some times, but he cares and very obviously loves his family.

2: Marshall Eriksen
    (How I Met Your Mother)

As much as I loved HIMYM, Marshall is the one I didn't hate at one point in time or another. He's super nice and kind and has his own values and although we didn't see him be a dad too much on the show, I think he'd be a great dad.

3: Richard Castle
    (Castle)

OMG of course Castle is on my list. It's Nathan frickin' Fillion. But he's a great dad. He cares, he gets worried and he'd do absolutely anything for Alexis. And she knows she can count on him for anything. I love love love Alexis and Richard's relationship. It's adorable. ♥

4: Henry Spencer
    (Psych)

Henry was the type of dad who pushed his son. Maybe a bit too much. It caused some issues between them, but overall, he was just a father who was trying his best to get his son to reach his full potential. When Shawn found his calling as a psychic detective, Henry was always there to help him out, even if it was just to talk things through. He came out of retirement just to make sure Shawn was safe. And even though Shawn didn't always catch on, all Shawn needed to do was ask for Henry's help, and he'd get it.

5: Bobby Cobb
    (Cougartown)

I loved this show. And Bobby Cobb was hilarious. He may not have been a great... role model at times, but he was always there for his son and I loved their relationship. Plus he's hilarious. I saw the actor on Burn Notice recently (I'm finally watching that show) and it was pre-Cougartown and it just wasn't right. He'll always be Bobby Cobb. Did I mention Bobby's hilarious?

Oh man, now I'm just going to sit here and miss Cougartown. And Psych. And How I Met Your Mother.

Mug Swap - What I Sent

Another Iggle swap! I had planned on staying away from iggle swaps for a while. The last one I'd done - the recipe book swap - took longer than I expected because I went overboard. It kind of burned me out. With that and the Best Birthday Ever Swap... I figured right then that I'd back off a bit. I avoided the swap section of the forums like the plague.

...And then I got a DM from the person running the Mug Swap. She had a bunch of people sign up, but she was at an odd number, and wondered if I might be interested in making it even. Of course I said yes... despite trying to stay away from the swaps, a swap sought me out, and I love swaps too much to say no. I couldn't resist!

So my swap buddy gave me a list of fandoms and other likes to go from, and I found myself on etsy searching "each fandom + mug". When I got to Batman, I found 5 million people and their mums were apparently selling vintage* glass Batman mugs. From 1995. From McDonald's. From Batman Forever.

*I don't know if I consider 1995 "vintage"

I laughed at this. "Who," I thought, "in their right mind, would want Batman Forever mugs?!"

And then a tiny voice in the back of my head spoke up.

"...Me."

All of a sudden I was looking at these mugs in search of the best deal to buy one for myself. Then I realized that maybe if *I* - a person who is only really more of a fan of the Batman movies and doesn't quite consider "Batman" one of her fandoms - would be interested in a Batman Forever mug... mayhaps my swap buddy would be interested?

I ended up finding a fairly good deal on three Batman Forever mugs - two Batmans and a Two Face.

One Batman mug is mine now. Bah hahaha.

Here are pics of Batman and Two Face:

Two Face front

Two Face back

These mugs were super cute! I like the coins on the handle of the Two Face mug! Once I washed them, I happily started packing these two mugs in to a box when my anxiety crept up behind me and whispered in my ear,

"What if she's not like you...?"

Dang it. THANKS ANXIETY. So my excitement from "vintage" Batman Forever mugs imploded in on itself and all that was left was a lingering mushroom cloud of doubt.

I went back to her list of likes, and headed out to the store.

Cats are one of her favorite animals, so I picked up this cute mug:

It was between this and an owl mug, (another one of her favorite animals) but overall I thought this one was cuter, mostly because the tail is the handle. Hehe.

So, I wrapped the cat mug up, found a bigger box, and sent all three mugs to my swap buddy. Surely she's bound to like at least one of them!! ♥

What I sent for a swap - BBES1

So I signed up for a swap ages ago. This swap was not IGGPPC related, though it was co created by an iggle. It's called the Best Birthday Ever Swap. You get assigned 3 people whose birthdays are in different quarters of the year, and you send them a package of birthday gifts on their birthday month!
Each package needs to include one handmade item, craft supplies, and some other surprise. The other surprise needs to be from a "local shop", meaning no big box store.

What all this means, is that this is the first post on this swap, and there will be three more - one for what I got for my presents, and two more for what I send.

This will be a somewhat short post though, because I forgot to take a full picture of the items I sent! My first assigned lovely lady's birthday was May 1st, and I wanted to get hers sent in time for her birthday, but I didn't have time to finish it until two weeks in to May, so I was in a bit of a hurry to send it out, and forgot full pictures.

Instead I'm going to share her instagram photo of what I sent:

Tada!! I sent a bunch of craft supplies, all mostly related to cross stitching, embroidery, and sewing, because that's what she was most interested in. She also likes cats, so I sent her a little Grumpy Cat plushie that has a birthday hat on, and Hello Kitty hand sanitizer. Also, Harry Pawter. I got her a print and a button. Because she also likes Harry Potter, and when I specifically read:

"I'm also OBSESSED with Harry Potter and cats."

I knew I needed to pick this print up for her.

This print is by the artist, Jenny Parks, who does some adorable kitty related fandom pictures. And she shows up at C2E2 and Chicago Comic Con every year. And every year I've found some excuse to purchase some of her merchandise for myself or others. lol.  (If she doesn't come near you, here's where you can buy her stuff online.)

And then there's my handmade item, which I did remember to get a photo of:

A cross stitch Harry Potter bookmark. I'm still pretty beginner-ish in cross stitching, so this took me much longer than I'd care to admit. Then I glued it to some gold scrapbook paper that I covered in dark red tulle. I think it came out okay, all things considered!! ♥

5 Fandom Friday - Favorite Fictional Moms

5 Fandom Fridays again!! And... go figure, the week I jump back in to blogging is a week of 5 Fandom Friday that I'm not doing. I'm not so in to comic books, so... while I'll enjoy the movies and possibly the shows, I don't really have an opinion on what should be done.

Instead I'm hopping back to May 8th's topic, Favorite Fictional Moms!

1: Molly Weasley
    (Harry Potter)

I can't imagine doing a list of favorite moms without including Molly. She gives her all to her children's safety and well being. She tries her best and she's a badass. ♥

2: Helen Parr
    (The Incredibles)

I've got quite a few badasses on my list, actually. I guess that's what I think a mother should be. A badass who loves her children! Elastigirl is exactly that type of mother. She'll protect her children from any one and any thing, and she's a Super, so she'll kick ass doing it.

3: Linda Tran
    (Supernatural)

When I first saw Linda, I was hesitant on whether I'd like her, but Linda is a badass. She wanted to be with her son and keep him safe no matter what. And when keeping him safe meant fighting demons, she adapted to do so. She was battered and beaten, but she always fought for Kevin and always took care of him.

4: Claire Dunphy
    (Modern Family)

Not exactly considered a badass... at least not like the other moms on my list. Still though, I consider Claire one. She's a perfectionist and loud and nags all the time... and often times I get annoyed at watching her. But overall, she loves her children and would do anything for any of them. She spends most of her time reeling in her overly optimistic and enthusiastic husband from going overboard on one of his ideas, or else doing whatever her kids need her to do.

5: Cersei Lannister
    (Game of Thrones)

I speak of tv show Game of Thrones Cersei. I've yet to read the books, so I'm not sure if she's much different there. But on the show, she is a delightfully villainous character. But she loves her kids, and she would do anything for them. The only real issue I've been seeing lately with her is that she is a strong believer in "mother knows best", and her decisions reflect that. Still, she's a mother not to be reckoned with.

New Funkos Alert, plus I'm STILL HERE!

Yes, you heard that right, I'm still here! I took a month off because... well, I'm not sure really. I didn't have much to talk about, or maybe I just didn't feel like talking about it. And then that 5 Fandom Friday skipped a week and I got anxious about what would be next, or if there would be a next.... aahhhh anxiety.

I am going to try getting back in to step. New 5 Fandom Friday topics are up and, while I am skipping this Friday's and substituting in one from May, I should be back on track here.

So anyhoo!!! Just a quick post today, sharing my two newest Funkos, which are actually over a month old now. lol. XD

Behold! Hodor and Khal Drogo!

I'm still fairly new to the Funko scene, having only given in to the addiction less than a year ago. I was not aware that either of these Pops existed. I found them both at C2E2. Hodor was found at a booth - where my dad finally gave in and started his own collection of Funko Pops. lol. I saw some Khals at a different booth earlier that day, but when I went back for him, he was gone.

The next day, Saturday, the Boyfriend joined us, and together we got a photo op with Jason Momoa. And I decided I needed a Khal Drogo Funko Pop. Boyfriend didn't want to stand in line to get our photo signed, so while I did that, he wandered around looking for a Khal for me. He was successful! BAH HAHAHAHA.  ♥
