Happy Valentine's Day!!
A few weeks ago, in a Facebook group I lurk in, a guy named Eric posted a group of Funko Pop Groots that he had customized for Vday.
This is Eric's Groot |
I loved the idea of a Groot Rose! But the price he was charging for these customs were too much for me. However, I did have an extra Dancing Groot. I began to wonder if I could make my own Groot Rose. So I gave it a try! This isn't a tutorial or anything, just showing ya what I did.
Here's my extra Dancing Groot! |
Dancing Groot is soooooo popular he's pretty much oversold, so I didn't feel so bad opening this guy and trying to VDay-ify him. lol. Plus, he's an extra. I preordered him, then saw him for sale shortly after I got him and decided to buy him again. Not sure why. He's been tucked behind my collection for over a year now, silently mocking my decision to buy a second one. Maybe it was fate! Hahaha.
OMG I opened the box. XD |
First I cleaned him off with some rubbing alcohol. I read online that a lot of people use acetone to remove his paint, but I skipped that step.

Added gems to the flower pot |
I went to Walmart looking for gems. I swear I used to have heart shaped red gems but alas, I couldn't find them. These are cute though. And it definitely made me happier about the flower pot. So my little Groot Rose is finished!
Back in the box |
Eric added a background to his boxes:
... and I thought that was cute, so while at Walmart I also picked up some pink glitter paper. I colored over the Groot on the box with crayons. It looks a mess but that's fine. I like it!
My Dancing Groot Rose all done! |
So there he is all finished! Isn't he adorable??? He was nice and simple for a first custom. I love him. Hehehe.
I don't know if I'll be doing any other customs, to be honest. I think about it sometimes, but eh... mayhaps I'll just stick to collecting. ♥
